Listen first.
Think beyond the brief.
Every project starts with a two-hour discovery call, in person where possible. We map what you actually want the audience to feel — not the brief, the feeling. The shoot is shorter when the listening was longer.
About · Jonathan Mills · Established 2014
Jonathan Mills Media is a one-filmmaker studio in Kerrville, Texas, built around brand films, documentary, and the slow work of paying attention. Twelve years in — same town, same camera in hand, same belief that the people in the frame matter more than what's around them.
02 · The work
A short film, made well, is the most generous thing a brand can give an audience: their attention back, with something true inside it. We make that.

03 · How we work
Four working principles, kept simple, kept true.
Think beyond the brief.
Every project starts with a two-hour discovery call, in person where possible. We map what you actually want the audience to feel — not the brief, the feeling. The shoot is shorter when the listening was longer.
Small crew, calm rooms.
One to six people, depending on the day. The advantage isn't budget — it's that subjects forget the camera is there. The best moments come from people who stopped performing forty minutes ago.
Every shot earns its place.
Two rounds of revisions, masters delivered in every cut you'll need — web, social, broadcast. Originals archived, available for any future project. The edit is treated like prose, every shot earning its place.
Available a year after delivery.
We don't disappear when the masters land. Originals are kept on cold storage for the life of the studio, and a phone call is always free — for an extra cut, a re-edit, a question about archive footage three years later.
04 · People powered
Nothing the studio has done in twelve years was made alone. Founders who let us into their workshops. Documentary subjects who trusted the camera. Editors, sound mixers, colorists, and second-shooters who turn a one-person studio into a real one when the days get long. This is for them.
Working together
If that's you, the next step is a free, no-obligation discovery call. Two hours, in person where possible.
